What truly defines a soul of any living creature? Is a soul made of the people that you care for? The people that care for you? Is it an energy that we could harness? Or is it simply a thing of fiction that our heads made up?

I believe that a soul is a simple, single piece of a very confusing puzzle that our minds are trying to comprehend, much like the universe, or even the multiverse. Now of course many different people have different views. The two definitions of a soul from Oxford are ‘The spiritual or immaterial part of a human being or animal, regarded as immortal.’ and ‘The emotional or intellectual energy or intensity, especially as revealed in a work of art or an artistic performance.’ To some a soul leaves your body when you die, few believe you transfer your soul to a new vessel, others just don’t believe in a soul, and some think that you do live a second life, just not on the same earth. A lot believe that we could be reborn in a sense on a completely different planet, with powers beyond our comprehension, or a world before technology and science became our source of information, where magic flows through the world.

I believe that the soul is a form of energy, that we humans can’t control. I feel that as there are many quotes and references to the soul, my favorite quote is; ‘The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind.’ – Caroline Myss. Now there aren’t many things to support that a soul exists, but that doesn’t stop people from believing in it, especially with all the belief in ghosts, ghouls and other spooky spiritual entities roaming the world.

Belief is something that I try not to delve into that much, if at all, but for this topic, I must. The three religions that are big believers in people having a soul are Christianity, Hinduism, and Jainism. I personally don’t really believe what these religions say about people or the world, or even who or what ‘created’ us in the first place. Saying that, I believe that everything has a soul, even the smallest creatures, and when we leave our bodies, something happens to it. Whether it’s transferred to another body after the memories of the previous life are erased, or if we get reborn in another part of the Multiverse. It’s definitely something I’ve pondered with my own imagination, wondering what it would be like to live another life in another world, but that’s enough rambling. Believe in the soul or not, there’s definitely something going on inside us that not even the most advanced technology can see.
